Do you have a Good Neighbour you are thankful for? Does your neighbour water your flowers when you’re away? Help clear your leaves or . . . snow? Helped you find a lost pet? Sharing your story will spur us to value and support our neighbours. 🙌 Spurring us on . . . this week’s Good Neighbour Story When I started working from home, I noticed a taxi at my neighbour's house every morning. Being curious, I kept watch and noticed it was their two young girls getting a ride to school. We would chat occasionally but didn't know each other well. So, I was a little shy to approach them with the offer to drive the girls to school, but watching them pay for a cab every morning seemed more rude than shy. When we ran into each other later that week, I mustered my courage and made the offer, fearing they might think I was some kind of weirdo. They were surprised and gratefully accepted. (this confirmed my working theory that we do not know what other people are thinking!) For the next few years, we started the day together, chatting about all the things a curious neighbour and two teenage sisters found interesting. We even said a few prayers together when they started each new school year . . . what a privilege! Helping with their daily transportation need provided an opportunity for us to connect and for me to be a supportive presence in their lives. Building connections with neighbours with small acts of kindness can lead to a stronger sense of community and can be very rewarding. Share your Good Neighbour story . . .
