Security Camera Registry in Brooks and the County for residential and business properties! This Registry gives community members the opportunity to have a part in solving crimes that may occur in their neighbourhood! What is a Security Camera Registry? A Security Camera Registry is a voluntary and secure registry of security cameras in our community. Eligible cameras include: outdoor cameras. Doorbell cameras, and indoor cameras (for businesses only). Why have a Security Camera Registry? The purpose of having it is when police investigate a crime in your community, officers often canvass neighbourhoods or plazas for security camera footage that may have captured images of suspects or criminal activity. This is a lengthy process requiring time and resources. BUT, when you register your cameras, officers can look who in the area may have captured footage and can ask them directly to view the footage! In an investigation where every second counts, this proactive step could be crucial in helping to solve a case, make an arrest, recover property, or even save a life. Can police just access my cameras whenever they want? The registry does not grant police direct access to your cameras, nor does it give police any of your passwords or account information. Officers must still contact you to ask to view and/or use any relevant footage. With that being said, the only reason they would ever contact you for permission to see your footage is if it could help in solving a crime. How is my information used? Any information collected from registrants will remain confidential. Addresses are plotted on a map used by police to identify cameras that may have captured activity pertinent to a criminal investigation. The map is not made available publicly. What if I move or decide that I want to be removed from the registry? You can unregister your cameras at any time.
